If you can properly learn how to use your CrockPot, it will simplify your life immensly.
1. First of all, when purchasing a CrockPot make sure that you buy one that has a removable liner, it will make it much easier to clean. However, I still use removable plastic liners (that can be found by the ziploc bags) because food seems to stick much easier to the porclein inside the slow cooker.
2. Secondly, it IS safe to leave your CrockPot unattended in your home. That is what they are made for.
3. Always cook ground beef and turkey before putting them into the CrockPot. I always put raw chicken, pork, fish, etc in the slowcooker, even frozen!
4. Do not open the crockpot during cooking time, in less otherewise instructed by the recipe. It will slow the cooking time down by thirty minutes.
4. Tabasco and Cayanne Pepper always seem to become bitter during long cooking times, so if you decide to use them in your recipe, add at the end of the cooking time.
Hope these few tips help you out! Please feel free to ask me any questions!

I've used those plastic crockpot liners, but the food would stick to it. Do you have an issue with that?
